Avocados and Smart Dogs

I went grocery shopping today.  I had my list in hand, and I was looking for avocado.  I have never had avocado before, but I had read that it tastes great with burgers.  So, I decided today was the day that I was going to try it.  I head toward the produce section when the word Pita catches my eye.  I remember from reading the book, The Eat-Clean Diet Recharged, that Pita Crackers were clean.  So, I stop to look over the choices.  Pita Bites catches my eye, so I pick it up.  One of the first things I see is "All Natural."  Yes!  I'm back in the cracker business.  And then, I start looking at the other choices and see Pita Chips, so I look them over and see the "Garden Veggie Medley" flavor.  I've had Veggie flavored crackers before, so I add that to my basket as well as the crackers.  I move on to the produce section and decide to start in the organic section looking for my avocado.  I only kind of know what one looks like as the extent of my knowledge of them includes how to spell it and that it is a vegetable...or is it a fruit?  ;)  I get to the organic section, and I start reading everything in that section.  The packaged meal things are in the upper right hand corner.  There's an eggplant...hmm...I wonder what that tastes like.  I see blueberries and strawberries...goldmine; I pick some up.  The blueberries would have been great in my all natural pancake this morning.  I will post the recipe if I can figure out how.  Sausage?  What is that doing in this section?  The meat is across the store.  What are patties doing in this section?  I grab the package and find out that these are not meat patties (ground turkey or burger), but they are veggie patties!  Wow, I didn't know a typical grocery store carried meatless patties.  I check the ingredients, and I find that they are completely natural too.  Good!  Then, I see hotdogs...Hotdogs?  What kind of hotdog can you find in the organic section?  Isn't that an oxymoron, "Organic Hotdogs?"  So, I grab the package and find again that they are not your normal hot dog.  They are made from vegetables.  So, I guess you would call them "veggie dogs."  Well, I decided to try them too.  There brandname is Smart Dogs.  So, I decide to cook them up.  Once I get home, I started the water boiling to prepare them.  And as the water is going, I start to wonder, what am I going to put on them?  I don't have Ketchup.  I did hear that there is organic ketchup, but I haven't seen it or bought it yet.  I have the avocado.  I can eat that now with the hotdog, and some more tonight when I try my patties for my veggieburger.  Now, why don't they offer those at restaurants?  Maybe some do; I just don't eat out much.  Oh yeah, and I have tomato from last night, and some onion.  Well, that'll work.  Then, I began to wonder what they would taste like.  Their smell isn't something I would brag about, so I started to get a little nervous.  What would I do with the other seven dogs if I didn't like the first one?  So, I butter my bread using Land o Lakes natural butter spread with Canola Oil, while the dogs are getting their two minute boiling bath.  I add a cooked dog, and grab a knife for the onion and tomato.  Note to self:  If you have chopped up a tomato, stick it in the fridge overnight!  Lesson learned.  Thankfully, I have another tomato.  I grab the avocado, wash it...(I have no clue what I am doing)..., I decide to chop it in half since I've seen pictures of it in half with the big ball of a pit in the middle.  I pull it open and grab a spoon.  It appears soft.  I scoop some out and try to figure out how to spread it when I decide a knife would be better.  Of course, I need to taste a little while I'm spreading.  It isn't so bad...kind of tastes buttery and salty.  Hmm...  And I take a bite of the end of my bare dog.  That doesn't really have a taste.  Great, I'm not sure about this.  But I hope the toppings will help.  So, I have my dog wrapped in bread with a little avocado spread on the end, some pieces of tomato, and a little onion.  I bring it to my chair and sit down.  Well, here goes nothing...  Hmm...odd.  Not too bad, but it is definitely a work in progress...needs ketchup :).  The taste is dull and kind of blah.  I barely taste the hotdog flavor, but it is very faint.  I will continue to experiment with these.  I plan to buy more when these are gone, but I will post a recipe when I find something that works and tastes delicious!  And that is my experience with clean veggie dogs and avocados...so far.
